Anshar Studios is a game development studio based in Katowice, Poland composed of over 70 skilled game enthusiasts from the video game industry. We created Telefrag VR, a fast-paced multiplayer shooter that natively supports the 3dRudder foot controller.

Anshar Studios

Game development studio based in Katowice, Poland, and creator of Telefrag VR

Our team is composed of employees with over 10 years experience in major video game development fields such as design, art, programming, and production coordination.

On top of providing quality video games, Anshar Studios also expanded the scope of its activities, offering its services to big companies in the gaming industry.

Among the companies we collaborated with, we can mention Larian Studios, Bloober Team, Artifex Mundi, The Farm 51, Seebo, and Playway.

The project

Telefrag VR is a fast-paced arena shooter in virtual reality. Set in an alternative universe where the Roman Empire never collapsed, you step into the shoes of a newly breed of gladiator on the road to becoming a champion.

The concept of Telefrag VR came into our mind almost immediately after the release of Detached, it was in 2017. We wanted Telefrag VR to have the same vibe as classic arena shooters such as UT or Quake.

As this is the case with classic FPS (First Person Shooters), the game offers different environments, fantastic weapons and an interesting gameplay developed in accordance with the amazing possibilities enabled by VR. For example, we believe the teleport attacks to be incredibly satisfying for the players!

Over 16 people worked on Telefrag VR, of course with the support of the rest of the Anshar Studios crew when needed. Most of our team previously worked on Detached and other projects made by our company, they were thus experimented when we started to develop Telefrag VR. And before that, some of us already had experience from companies such as CI Games and Creative Forge Games.

The 3dRudder is a comfortable device for anyone who wants to have even more control in VR games!

We believe the 3dRudder foot controller to be a great device because it strengthens the player’s immersion on PC VR as well as on PlayStation VR, and this particular point was crucial for us and our projects.

Our goal as a game studio is to provide the best gaming experience possible to players and to exploit all the possibilities of this new VR dimension. And the 3dRudder helped us to achieve this goal.

At first, we expected the device to be easy to set up but also user-friendly – and we were not let down! Movement control and fluidity are key elements of this type of titles. The 3dRudder foot controller helped us better reflect the intensity of gameplay that you can find in other games, like Quake 3 Arena or Unreal Tournament, in Telefrag VR. It’s a comfortable device for anyone who wants to experience more control in VR games.

The 3dRudder is straightforward, accessible and development-friendly. Thanks to it, the quality of action games become even better (e.g., with motion control) and the experience in VR turns more immersive.

Projects for the future?

When speaking of the future of virtual reality, games will become more and more immersive through the use of devices such as the 3dRudder – and thus funner for the players. There will also be more games with great storytellings, while titles created for pure engagement are expected to become greater in their field.

After Telefrag VR, we would like to take a break from VR in order to focus on other projects that we’re currently developing. We can’t talk yet about our future projects except that they will focus more on emotions, choices, and complex figures than on action.

After our first project Detached – a space exploration and survival FPX, released for PC VR in 2017 and later on PlayStation VR – and Telefrag VR, our developers are currently focusing on a few promising projects including isometric RPG game. The studio is also involved in the development of a few undisclosed projects for a group of premium tier customers.

We discovered the 3dRudder for the first time at Gamescom 2018, as we met one of your employee[s] there. At that point in time, we were showcasing Detached which, due to the zero-g movement (moving in all axes), was not suitable to use with the device.

But we decided to give it a try with Telefrag VR, and it fitted perfectly with the game's type of locomotion! We used the Unreal Engine plug-in. The integration itself was simple and took us about 10 days with only small fixes.
